1.  Mumbai Indians (MI)

Owner: Mukesh Ambani (Reliance Industries)

Primary Business: Oil, Telecom, Retail

Net Worth: $92.8 billion

Mukesh Ambani is the richest person in India.   He also owns MI through Indiawin Sports, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries. 2.  Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

N. Srinivasan is another important figure at the level of Indian cricket administration. While he is not only involved in the cricket world, it would be safe to assume that he owns CSK through India Cements. 3. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

PBKS is a consortium owned by an assortment of businessmen and actress Preity Zinta. Despite having a strong ownership group, the team has not yet won an IPL championship.

7. Rajasthan Royals (RR)

LSG is one of the newer franchises and is owned by Sanjiv Goenka's RPSG Group. LSG's meteoric rise in the league follows various strategic investments and oversight by its ownership group.

10. Gujarat Titans (GT)

Owner: Torrent Group

Primary Business: Pharmaceuticals, Power, City Gas

Net Worth: $6 billion+

Purchased: 2021

Franchise Value: approximately $950 million in 2024

Much like LSG, GT was launched in 2021. The franchise was first owned by CVC Capital Partners. Torrent Group, the Ahmedabad-based company, acquired a 67% majority stake in GT in 2025, which positioned GST into their management fold.

Team Purchase Prices and Values

IPL-team purchase prices in 2008 ranged from $67 million to $112 million. For example, the Mumbai Indians were bought for $111.9 million, while the Chennai Super Kings and $91 million. LSG and Gujarat Titans joined the expanded 2021 IPL playing season with a reported franchise fee of around $940 million for each team. Valuations of the IPL franchises increased dramatically by 2024 and ahead, including valuations for the Mumbai Indians and Super Kings over a billion and 3, representing the impressive reach and growth of IPL franchise team ownership around the globe.
