Delhi Capitals with Record-Breaking 10-Wicket Victory to Qualify for Playoffs
Putting on an exhibition of
batting firepower, the Gujarat Titans (GT) thrashed the Delhi Capitals (DC) by
10 wickets in Match 60 of IPL 2025 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, May
18. The emphatic victory not only booked GT's place in the playoffs but also
sent out a powerful message to the other teams in the competition regarding
their title aspirations. Kyran Pollard's Titans were chasing a stiff target of
200 runs and chased this down without losing a wicket, with the score being
compiled fully as record breakers in the process.
DC innings: KL Rahul the lone
beacon
After losing the toss and being
put into bat, DC started strongly thanks to the big-haired captain KL Rahul,
who was looking sublime. Rahul threaded his way through the innings, battering
an impressive 101 of just 58 balls, with 12 well-placed boundaries and 3 sixes,
draining much of the scoring from the embers of his bat. Apart from KL, the
rest of the batting order was guilty of not converting starts into meaningful
scores
Abishek Porel chipped in with a
brisk 28 from 18 balls while Tristan Stubbs had a handy 26 off 17.
Unfortunately for DC, their middle order couldn’t build on the momentum created
by Rahul. As the DC innings progressed, Gujarat bowlers, in particular Rashid
Khan and Mohammed Siraj, kept it tight during the middle overs and took a
wicket each, ensuring that DC couldn’t break away at the end. The Capitals
finished on 199/3 — a decent score but not one still, as it turned out, enough.
Gujarat Titans’ Chase: An
Unprecedented Opening Stand
The Gujarat Titans' reply was
truly unbelievable. The opening pair of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan put on a
complete exhibition of unbelievable batting to dismantle the DC bowlers.
Shubman Gill, showing his controlled temperament and stylish strokeplay,
finished 102* from 58 balls while Sudharsan blitzed 92* from 55 balls.
The two went on to put on a fully
unbeaten partnership of 205 runs - clearly the highest opening partnership in
IPL history - dislodging KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal from the top. Gill and
Sudharsan’s partnership was unrelenting with poise, power, and control; in
short, they were tactical. After carting the DC bowlers around Eden Gardens,
the Titans completed the chase in just 19 overs and enjoyed absolute control.
