TATA IPL 2025 Final Preview: Punjab Kings vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru | Who Will Win?
The game was already off to an ominous start. Rain and a wet outfield caused a delay of 90 minutes, frustrating players and fans alike. Nevertheless, once the match got underway, the Punjab Kings soon took control of the match. Young opening batsman, Priyansh Arya, brought instant entertainment to the curtailed evening with an explosive innings of 70, including six sixes and five fours. His bold stroke-play gave the contest the early impetus it so desperately needed.
While Arya entertained the crowd,
Prabhsimran Singh quietly collected runs at the other end and reached his
half-century without much notice. Singh's innings of 50 not-out also made a
statement in the end as it took PBKS to 122-1 in just 10.1 overs and made him
the first uncapped player to score four 50s in a row in IPL history.
But just as the crowd settled
down to watch a potentially high-scoring thriller, the lights literally went
out. A power outage took out one of the floodlight towers, stopping play. Not
long after, the spiralling tensions between India and Pakistan made their way
to the cricket arena, probably raising security concerns, and eventually
evacuating players and fans from the stadium.
Later confirming that the match
would not resume, the BCCI offered spectators an apology for the inconvenience
caused. Each team was awarded one point - a hollow end to what could have been
a grand cricketing affair.
With this fixture being the last
in the IPL schedule to be hosted in Dharamsala, and the rest of the fixtures
now relocated over logistical and security reasons, it's a sad reminder that
even the gentlemen's game isn't immune to the very real circumstances of the
world beyond the boundary ropes.
The Board of Control for Cricket
in India (BCCI) expressed regret for the inconvenience to the fans. Both sides
were given one-point each. This was the final IPL game of the season in
Dharamsala, because Punjab's next game against Mumbai had to be rescheduled to
Ahmedabad due to India-Pakistan tensions and a number of logistical issues,
including the closure to civilian use of the airports in Dharamsala and
Chandigarh.
Chak De INDIA.!!!
